There is no daily limit and no per-dictation limit on Pro. To stop abuse there is a ceiling of 5,000,000 metered words a month — the meter counts each dictation twice, once as the transcript and once as the cleaned-up text, so that is about 2.5 million words you actually speak, roughly 277 hours of speech — plus 30 requests a minute and 25 MiB per recording. Reaching one refuses that request; nothing is slowed down and nothing extra is charged. The detail is in Terms § 8.
On the Cloud plan, your audio is sent to Blurt's server and relayed to a speech provider (Soniox or ElevenLabs for the live row of words; Groq or OpenAI for the recording), and the transcript to a text provider (OpenRouter or OpenAI). Is Blurt really free?
Yes — the app is free. On Apple Silicon, dictation runs on your Mac at no cost, with no account to create. You also get a free taste of the managed Cloud plan: 200 metered words, which is about 100 words you actually speak — the meter counts the transcript and the cleaned-up text separately, the same way it does on Pro. Pro is entirely optional.
What does Pro actually add?
The big one: managed Cloud transcription that we run for you, with no daily limit — nothing to set up. On top of that you get priority models that are faster and sharper, it works on every Mac (including Intel), plus a custom dictionary, snippets, settings sync across Macs, and priority support.
Where does my audio go on Pro?
On the Cloud plan, your audio is uploaded to Blurt's server, which relays it to a speech provider and returns the text. The live row of words while you hold the key comes from Soniox (default) or ElevenLabs; the recording sent after you release goes to Groq (default) or OpenAI. The transcript is then cleaned up by a text model at OpenRouter or OpenAI. The audio isn't kept after the request. Prefer to keep everything on your Mac? Is there a limit on how much I can dictate?
No daily limit, and no limit per dictation. There is an anti-abuse ceiling, and we would rather name it — and show the arithmetic — than call the plan "unlimited". The ceiling is 5,000,000 metered words a calendar month. The meter charges each dictation twice: once for the transcript, once for the cleaned-up text the model returns. So in words you actually say it is about 2.5 million a month — at 150 words a minute, roughly 277 hours of speech, or 9 hours of non-stop dictation every day of the month. On top of that: 30 requests a minute and 25 MiB per recording. Hitting one refuses that single request; nothing is throttled and nothing extra is charged. If you ever reach the monthly figure by simply talking, write to us — that means we set the number wrong. See Terms § 8.
How does the free trial work?
14 days of full Pro. Cancel before it ends and you won't be charged; otherwise it continues at the plan price.
Monthly or yearly — what's the difference?
Same Pro either way. Yearly is billed once at €72 and works out to €6/mo — three months free versus paying monthly.
Can I cancel anytime?
Anytime. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for, then return to the free tier — on-device on Apple Silicon.
What's your refund policy?
